about
I originally wrote this in mid-2020, when no one knew what the future held and things seemed pretty bleak. Today, as the world seems to be in the throes of even further chaos and decay, it seemed like the perfect first taste of new music (more to come this year).
It wasn't intended to be part of the Analog Party catalog, but in the back of my mind I knew it was a special tune. It sounded different than our previous material -- and a little harder to pin down the song's DNA, though a few strands would definitely include: Failure, Sonic Youth, The Cure, Deftones, Can, etc.
I originally put the demo out under the name Jupiter Drive -- a solo endeavor. I subsequently took the demo to my bandmate Charles, we "rocked" it up a bit, and here we are with this new version. Our friend Jennifer (aka Final Child) did a fantastic job on this track -- she laid down a beautiful vocal and I'm grateful for her brilliant contribution to this song, melodically and lyrically.
Hope you enjoy. Stay tuned for more before the end of the year.

lyrics
Hey, gotta be talking about somebody else
Dodging bullets every night in your crossfire
Replaying times it should have been you
Walking out on the dock
Instead I got hurt
Rip the tide up
Gotta rip the tide up
Hey, what if I'm the one who gets hurt
Staring at you drown, but I can't read your eyes now
Stuck in a room inside my head
I can't go without freedom
Be sure to lock the door one your way out
Rip the tide up
Gotta rip the tide up
Road ahead undone
Gotta get your hands dirty babe
Don’t you fade away
It’s not like I want you sane
Gotta find my lone way home
(Heading down that road undone)
Sick of lacking self-control all the time
(Gotta find your own way out into my light)
In here I thought I was safe
Now I see it’s no better at keeping me together
